"Art of Paper Cutting" in Different Languages



Paper cutting is remained thus popular after >2000 years of history as it is simple to master and the tools & materials are cheap & easy to find. This art of craft later spread to other parts of the world with different regions adopting their own cultural styles and to be given a different name.

Chinese - JianZhi 剪紙

Japanese - Kirie

Indian - Sanjhi

German/Swiss - Scherenschnitte

Dutch - Knippen

Poles - Wycinanki

Turks - "ka 'ti"

Ukraine - vytynanky

Mexican - Papel picado

It is a blessing that we are able to share the common interest of paper cut art when this craft is called in different names.
